Another favorite "healthy" pick of mine are deli sandwich thins or flats (depending on the brand). I love sandwiches, but don't want to "spend" 220-300 calories on bread. Sandwich thins are anywhere from 80-100 calories depending on brand and variety. My two favorite brands are Arnold Sandwich Thins and Pepperidge Farm Deli Flats. Both brands have great whole wheat options. You get two pieces for the sandwich at the same calories or less than one piece of bread! These also have great protein (usually 5 grams), and great fiber (again, at least 5 grams!)
They work great as a sandwich, both for lunch or a breakfast sandwich with egg and ham. Where else can you use them? There are so many great ways! Deli flats are perfect in place of a hamburger bun. Try toasting one and spreading laughing cow cheese and/or sautéed veggies. Use a Deli Flat for a pizza crust, top with sauce, veggies/other fave pizza toppings and light cheese! Try making a deli flat into a Bruschetta, by toasting, and then topping with grape tomatoes halved, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, basil, salt and pepper.
